2010 True Martial Arts Championships

The Trophy

During my “Competitive Martial Arts Career” I have had ups and downs. I loved to compete. So much so I practiced every day over an hour and a half 5 times a week on top of my normal class. I gave it everything I had when sparing in class. I can remember sparing so much I wouldn't be happy until the sweat from my brow would burn into my eyes and the taste of salt in my mouth guard and only then I worked hard enough that day. As the competition would get closer the trill of winning was all that I could think of. I had to be first!

At the tournaments I gave it my all and sometime I would win and sometimes lose. Years would pass and the trophy's would accumulate in my room, then to the garage, then to the box in the garage.

Now that I am older and a bit wiser, and might I add I am only 31 and still a baby in this world, I now know it wasn't the trophy I was after. It was not for the short felling of happy I would have that would only last until the next class. Looking back I now realize that the real trophy wasn't the gold figure on the plastic base. It wasn't looking at them all stacked on a shelf that I can only remember the competition of one of them when I took second (that is another story.) It wasn't for the glory, pride, or anything in between. It was for the trophy inside of me that I won whatever the judges thought of how low my stances where or how fast I did that roundhouse kick to get in. It was inside of me!

I now realize what I was working so hard for. As the competition came closer I would try harder. I would spar faster. I would become better at Martial Arts and therefore become better person. Now I understand that is the real trophy and that will stay with me forever...

KBN Chris Aprecio

Thank you True Martial Arts for having our school to participate in the biggest competition our school has ever been too. Congratulations to all that placed and everyone that came to show support for Trinity Martial Arts.
